Compo-SiL® Certified as Cruelty-free Vegan Leather by PETA
Hsinchu, Taiwan, February 28, 2023 - General Silicones (GS), an expert manufacturer of silicone products with more than 50 years of experience, today announced that its Compo-SiL® vegan leather products received the certification as PETA-Approved Vegan product.
The certificate by the American animal rights organization PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, indicates that none of the ingredients, formulations, or finished products of the Compo-SiL® vegan leather contains animal-derived ingredients.
It is the fundamental conviction of General Silicones since its founding to "Helping improve our life quality and creating a pollution-free environment for our next generation," which is not only expressed in the company mission statement but strived for by management and staff.
"Receiving the PETA certification is an expression of our commitment to developing sustainable, non-toxic, non-hazardous, green, and environmentally friendly products to achieve the Group's sacred mission of helping improve our life quality and leave the next generation a pollution-free environment," said Michael Lin, President and CEO of GS.
Hsinchu, Taiwan, October 27, 2022 - General Silicones (GS), an expert manufacturer of silicone products with 50 years of experience, is announcing the availability of its new product line of decorative film laminates based on its Compo-SiL® technology. Compo-SiL® silicone solves the problem of the adhesion of cured silicone rubber films to surfaces. The patented technology creates firm and durable adhesion to most surfaces during in-mold decoration (IMD) and out-mold decoration (OMD) processes.
The unique properties of silicone rubber, in combination with the Compo-SiL® technology, allow IMD/OMD providers to supply their customers with a new range of surface properties and more flexibility in decoration.
GS manufactures Compo-SiL® decorative film with visual, tactile, and material properties that traditional decorative film cannot achieve.
Examples of silicone rubber film properties:
Unlike thermal-plastic film, the thermal-set silicone rubber of Compo-SiL® film offers the added benefit that surface trim won't disappear during thermoforming.
Plastic material quickly deteriorates from UV, water, and heat exposure in outdoor conditions. The high resistance to water, heat, cold, and UV light of silicone rubber gives brands creating products used in harsh outdoor environments to have decorations and logos that do not risk deterioration from environmental factors.
Compo-SiL® decorative film can be shipped in rolls as a transparent film. The client digitally prints his customers desired designs on-site using standard digital printers. Testing different design concepts and creative ideas are now additional services mold companies can offer to their customer thanks to the flexibility of on-site printing.
Hsinchu, Taiwan, September 27, 2022 - General Silicones (GS), an expert manufacturer of silicone products with 50 years of experience, is announcing the availability of its new product line of flame retardant silicone rubber sheets. The new custom Compo-SiL® product is made from custom UL 94-V0 silicone raw material and is enhanced with GS's patented Compo-SiL® technology for easy and fast adhesion to any surface.
Easy Adhesion to Any Surface
Wider use of silicone rubber was so far hampered by the lack of adhesion of cured silicone rubber.
Compo-SiL® by GS has an ultra-thin extra layer added to the silicone rubber, allowing for simple and easy adhesion to nearly any surface using standard PUR or hot-melt adhesives.
Sustainability and Environmentally Friendly
Compo-SiL® flame retardant sheets have low sensitivity to external heat flux, low heat release rates (HRR), and low yields of carbon monoxide emission when exposed to fire.
As a halogen-free flame retardant material, Compo-SiL® sheets produce little smoke during burning and do not produce any hazardous gases, safeguarding both human health and the environment.
The slow burning properties and the low, non-toxic smoke of the Compo-SiL® material buys individuals precious time to escape into safety.
When exposed to fire, the flame retardant silicone rubber will become a hard ceramic that withstands very high temperatures and does not conduct heat or electricity.
Textile manufacturers can now benefit from silicone's properties by easily integrating Compo-SiL® sheets into existing roll-to-roll mass production processes to fire-proof textiles or cut them to size for bonding to glove surfaces or other applications.
As an experienced manufacturer, GS produces sheets with leather embossing and custom coloring. Compo-SiL® fire-proof vegan leather can be used as a protective and environmentally friendly cover for public transportation, hospitality, and other situations with similar fire protection requirements.
Hsinchu, Taiwan, September 13, 2022 - General Silicones (GS), an expert manufacturer of silicone products, shares how its Compo-SiL® silicone vegan leather is an excellent material for manufacturers of steering wheel cover and wheels.
Adding antiviral and antibacterial properties to the material allows clients to provide extra benefits to customers.
Common steering wheel covers are made from PU leather, a material that quickly cracks and ages under UV light and outdoor parking during the summer heat. Compo-SiL® vegan leather sheets are made from silicone rubber, which is inert to UV radiation.
Compo-SiL® silicone rubber is weather resistant. It does not soften under high temperatures or crack under sub-zero temperatures. The material is resistant to hydrolysis from rain, seawater, and sweat, making it ideal for outdoor vehicles and marine use.
Car and steering wheel brands benefit from Compo-SiL®’s resistance to perspiration, fuel, and oils to provide customers a consistent experience without the risk of degradation even under heavy professional use.
Additional benefits of Compo-SiL® are that the leather material is odorless, anti-allergic, and does not contain any solvents that could leak into the sweat of the user's hands.
In professional settings, where the steering wheel is without protection by windshields, such as heavy equipment, and in marine environments, that inertness to direct sunlight, rain, heat, and cold make Compo-SiL® a preferred material.
Custom Colors, Patterns, and Embossments for Steering Wheel Covers
Compo-SiL® vegan leather can be customized to customers' color requirements and adjusts the haptic sensation, embossment, and surface patterns to the provisions of each project. With over 50 years of silicone manufacturing experience, GS can customize the look and feel of the leather to match the requirements of basic styles to luxury brands.

Hsinchu, Taiwan, September 9, 2021 - General Silicones (GS), an expert manufacturer of silicone products, shares how its silicone rubber film with antiviral and antibacterial properties is a simple solution for adding protection to exposed surfaces. As a supplier of medical grade silicone parts with over 50 years in experience, GS took on the challenge to support the healthcare industry with new means to easily add protection against viruses, bacteria, and fungi on high touch surfaces.
The ongoing COVID-19 crisis has shown how viruses and bacteria must be prevented from spreading through healthcare facilities as early as possible. Surfaces with active ingredients are a tool of growing importance to help suppress the spread of increasingly resistant and dangerous microbes, as even the most frequent cleaning regimen cannot prevent contamination. Hospitals and healthcare facilities can now apply protective antimicrobial silicone rubber film from General Silicones to high-touch surfaces frequently used by patients and visitors.
Hsinchu, Taiwan, August 19, 2021 - Experienced silicone product manufacturer General Silicones (GS) is proud to share that its antiviral silicone rubber sheets passed the strict ISO 21702:2019 test performed by BOKEN (SGS) laboratories. The examination is one of the most demanding tests to verify the antiviral properties of non-porous surfaces. The confirmation of the antiviral properties neatly adds to the recently announces verification of the antifungal properties of the silicone rubber and the antibacterial properties of the silicone. Using its 50 years of experience in silicone manufacturing, the antiviral silicone formulated by GS prevents the growth of microbes and viruses and reduces their survival time on the silicone rubber surface significantly.
