FAQ
Silicone General Questions
What is silicone?
Silicone is a synthetic polymer that consists of silicon, oxygen, carbon, hydrogen and other elements. They are typically heat-resistant and usually used in sealants, adhesive, lubricant, medicine, cooking utensil, thermal electrical insulation, etc. The forms of silicone can be silicone oil, silicone grease, silicone rubber, silicone resin, or silicone caulk.
What are the advantages of silicone?
- Silicone is one of the bio-friendly and sustainable raw materials.
- It is widely applied in health care, electronics, automotive, aerospace, industrial assembly, building, textile, consumer products, and more fields.
- It is resistant to heat, temperature, electric, chemicals, UV/ozone radiation and X-rays, and other environmental factors.

What are the disadvantages of silicone?
The silicone surface is very inert, which makes it difficult to bind with other functional materials. Also, due to the low surface inertia of silicone, printing and adhesion are other problems.

Is silicone toxic?
No. Silicone is a harmless and safe polymer with non-toxic effect in almost every environment. What’s more, many silicone products are food grade products. They don’t include petroleum-based chemicals, BPA, BPS, and fillers.
How much temperature can silicone withstand?
General silicone rubber can withstand temperature from -40℃ to +220℃. However, the temperature range can become wider by adding other materials.
Can silicone be electrically or thermally conductive?
Yes. By the compounding specific fillers with silicone rubber, it can be electrically or thermally conductive.
Can silicone be used in clean room environment?
Yes. Silicone is highly used in most of the clean room environment.

FHE (Flexible Hybrid Electronics)
What is FHE (Flexible Hybrid Electronics)?
FHE (Flexible Hybrid Electronics) is a novel approach to the development of semiconductor electronic devices and circuits. Rather than using silicone substrates and evaporation techniques, FHE thrives to use polymeric flexible and bio-compatible materials (or substrates) with the combination of printed electronics. These devices can be stretchable, flexible and they are conformable to human bodies.
How does Compo-SiL® use in FHE application?
